Track and Field memo

Track season has begun!  If you have a child in grades 5-8 who is interested in participating in the Track and Field program please e-mail Tonya Gennoe at  Tonya has volunteered to be the communications person for the families and school. When you contact her, you will be added to the track and field email group.

This e-mail group will be the forum to discuss practice dates, times, etc.  We also need some parents, ideally two from each grade level, to commit to a couple of hours a week to help out with the practices.  You do not need a background in track and Mr. Pat Carty, the athletics director, has offered to help get us started.  We also hope to have the assistance of some high school athletes from Northumberland High to work with the students.

Unfortunately, if we do not have parents to help coach, there will not be a team. Once Tonya has your e-mail contact she will send out the information that she has so far.  The email group will be the main form of communication so it is very important to contact her as soon as possible.

Grade 5 and 5/6 Music Presentations

For African Heritage Month, the grade 5 and 5/6 classes performed their own arrangements of the African Folk song "Sansa Kroma" (a Ghanaian playground song). Both recordings feature students playing the xylophone, ukulele, piano, drums, shakers and singing. Good work students!!

Exploratories-Glen Haven Visits

Grade seven and eight students from WA MacLeod Consolidated School have been visiting on a weekly basis for the month of February as part of their school’s exploratory program. Teacher, Mike McPherson, who coordinates the visits for the students, is very enthusiastic about the benefits of the Thursday afternoon visits for both the students and the residents. Mr. McPherson tells how he has observed the residents of Glen Haven during the pleasant and fun filled atmosphere created during the visits, and it is obvious they are having a good time. He explains, with pride, that because of the interaction with the residents, these outings give students an opportunity to have additional positive, enriching experiences beyond the classroom.  Way to go, Coyotes!
