Student Absences

CALLING IN AN ABSENCE FOR YOUR CHILD: Due to rising Covid cases within the province, Public Health have requested new guidelines pertaining to attendance reporting of students.  Dr. W A MacLeod School have updated their answering machine to reflect these changes. (Press #1 when calling)  If your child is absent due to illness, we ask you provide the symptoms your child is experiencing. Due to COVID 19 monitoring Public Health requests this information to be reported daily.

SWIFT K12 ATTENDANCE ALERT: If your child has been recorded as absent for one or more classes during the day and we have not received a call regarding the absence, a Swift K12 message will be sent to your phone and/or email.  Please contact the school to excuse this absence. If this absence is related to illness, you are asked to advise the school of the symptoms you child is experiencing. Due to Covid 19 monitoring in schools the school is asked to report this information to Public Health daily.

Buffs/Neck Gaters

Buffs/Neck Gaters – Public Health has advised that buffs or neck gaters do not meet requirements for protection in place of masks.  The reasoning is that coverings must fit properly and be sealed around the nose.  Thank you for your cooperation.

First Term Report Cards

First Term report cards have been sent out by email.  Please make sure that when you access the report card and use the birthdate as the password, that you include the dashes in the birthdate (ex. 2020-11-24).

If you have not received an email with the report card in the next 24 hours, please contact the school at 902-755-8450.

First Term Report Card/Parent-Teacher Session

On Tuesday (November 24th), report cards will be sent home through email. If you do not have a current email on file in PowerSchool or have internet access, please contact the school to update that information.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, parent/teacher sessions will look different this term.  A note will be sent home with students next Tuesday to state the upcoming opportunities that will be available to discuss your child(ren)’s progress with their teachers.

Thanks again for your cooperation!

Re:      Special Olympics Registration Night

Hi everyone, this year looks a little different for Special Olympics Pictou County and because of this, we are later starting with our registration.  We are looking at starting some of our sport programs in January 2021 and some of the outside summer sports will begin when the weather allows and as long as it is safe to do so.  All of our coaches have taken Covid 19 Safety Training and are looking forward to getting back together for practices of the sports we will be offering this year. With Covid restrictions there are many venues / locations who limit the number of participants at one time. Once we have numbers registered, coaches/committee members will be in touch to share days and times for each sport.

This year registration forms will be distributed to Summer Street, HCRS, ARC, Autism Pictou County and the local schools. We are asking that all athletes, guardians, or staff fill out the forms and either email them to or return them to myself or Allison Kearley.  You can also mail them to Box 1842 Stellarton, NS B0K 1S0 C/O Cathy Mason. This will limit the amount of people coming and going from registration night.

When filling out the registration form it is important to ensure the information is: accurate, up to date and is printed clearly. If the athlete takes medication, please attach a list of medications from the pharmacy with dosage and times taken.  Please check off your first choice for a winter sport and a second and 3rd choice for winter and summer as well.  This way if your first choice for a sport is not up and running but your 2nd or 3rd sport is, we can get you into that sport.

Once we have received all the forms for our athletes, we will be in contact with you about your sport choice.  Things will look very different this year as there will be no scrimmages, competitions, tournaments, etc. This is a great year to develop your skills or try something new.

Winter Sports:  Snowshoe, Curling, Figure Skating and Bowling.

Summer Sports: Softball, Golf, Bocce, Swimming, Rhythmic Gymnastics and basketball.

Any questions let me know. Thanks Cathy
