Teen Readers Choice Award

What is the CCRSB Teen Reader’s Choice Award?

The Teen Reader’s Choice Award is Chignecto-Central Regional School Board’s first student-driven book award, facilitated by CCRSB Library Services. Last year, students in grades 7-12 read books from the Top 10 list, and voted for what they considered to be the best book. Almost 600 votes were cast across the board and Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon was crowned the winner. This is the sixth year for the award, so our goal is to have at least 1000 votes cast!

CCRSB Library Services staff carefully choose the Top 10 based on the best critical reviews, readers’ reviews, and the books’ performances on well-respected awards lists. The titles represent a wide range of genres and include some of the best fiction.

In addition to in-person discussions, and the TRCA blog, CCRSB is introducing the hashtag #TRCA2017 this year to further build the conversation around literature. Students are encouraged to use the hashtag when voicing their thoughts and opinions of these books online.

Why have a Teen Reader’s Choice Award?

  • To expose students to recent, high-quality teen fiction.
  • To celebrate reading for pleasure and encourage teens to have conversations about books.
  • To continue the success realized through the Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Award, which targets students in grades 4-6.

When will the Teen Reader’s Choice Award happen?

  • March 21 Top 10 titles are revealed. Students begin reading!
  • March 21 – June 2 Students can vote online or in their school library.
  • June 2 Voting closes and the votes are counted.
  • June 13 Winning book announced, with award ceremonies/events in participating CCRSB libraries.
